Hasan Mahmud Hat-Trick Powers Bangladesh Into Dominant Position Against Afghanistan

Bangladesh paceman Hasan Mahmud produced a sensational hat-trick on Sunday to dismiss Afghanistan and help his team build a commanding 329-run lead on day three of their one-off Test in Abu Dhabi. Resuming their first innings at 211 for 4 at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Afghanistan crumbled under the pacer's lethal morning spell, folding for 240 in reply to Bangladesh’s first-innings total of 346.
The 26-year-old speedster tore through the lower order, removing Ismat Alam, Qais Ahmad, and Zia-ur-Rehman with three consecutive deliveries to leave Afghanistan reeling at 220 for 8. Hasan, who had previously claimed a nine-wicket match haul in Bangladesh’s famous upset against Australia in Darwin in August, finished with remarkable figures of 5 for 55 to secure a critical 106-run first-innings cushion for the tourists.

Despite the collapse around him, Afghanistan captain Rahmat Shah waged a valiant solo battle from one end. Rahmat compiled a stubborn, unbeaten 105, demonstrating sublime technique and grit against the moving ball, but lacked substantial partnerships down the order to overhaul Bangladesh's testing first-innings benchmark.
With a handy lead in the bag, Bangladesh pressed home their advantage during their second essay on a deteriorating surface. By stumps on the third evening, the visitors reached 223 for 6 in their second innings, taking their overall buffer past the 300-run mark with four wickets still in hand.
At the close of play, senior wicketkeeper-batter Litton Das was unbeaten on five alongside all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who had yet to open his account. With the pitch offering uneven bounce and substantial turn, Bangladesh will look to add quick runs on day four before unleashing their bowling attack in pursuit of a memorable Test victory.
