Resilience After Captaincy Change
Shan Masood has shown remarkable resilience following his removal as Pakistan’s Test captain. Head coach Sarfaraz Ahmed has publicly thrown his weight behind the senior batter, praising his positive attitude and unwavering commitment to the team despite the leadership transition.
Positive Response and Attitude
Speaking at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium after the team’s pre-departure training camp, Sarfaraz Ahmed emphasized that Shan’s confidence remains high. The head coach noted that the left-hander responded very professionally to the change in captaincy. Even while managing a minor hamstring niggle that required a week of rest, Shan maintained an excellent attitude throughout the duration of the camp.
Strategic Contribution as a Senior Player
Sarfaraz described Shan as a "sensible cricketer" who understands the demands of international cricket. The coach believes that Shan will continue to serve the team with the same level of dedication he showed while he was the captain. By shifting his focus entirely to his batting, Shan is expected to play a key role during the upcoming challenging tours of the West Indies and England.
Preparation for Upcoming Challenges
The coaching staff has focused heavily on preparing the squad for the different conditions they will face abroad. Sarfaraz highlighted the following aspects of their recent training:
Specialized Training:
The team held a month-long camp in Lahore followed by specialized sessions in Rawalpindi.
Conditioning:
Coaches used both spin-friendly and grassy pitches to ensure players are ready for Caribbean and English conditions.
Squad Composition:
The inclusion of domestic performers like Azan Awais and Abdullah Fazal provides a balanced mix of youth and experience.
Optimism for the Future
With Babar Azam reclaimed as the skipper, the management is looking to inject stability into the Test side. Sarfaraz expressed optimism that the team’s intensive hard work over the past month, combined with clear one-to-one discussions with the players to address past shortcomings, will translate into better results on the field.
