Coaching Shake-up: Luke Ronchi Named Renegades Coach, Cameron White Moves to Stars

The Melbourne Big Bash League (BBL) clubs have announced a significant coaching restructure, with Luke Ronchi appointed as the new head coach of the Melbourne Renegades, replacing Cameron White. White, in turn, has been formally appointed as the head coach of the Melbourne Stars, while Peter Moores will transition to a director of coaching role at the club for the upcoming season.

Luke Ronchi, 45, is set to depart his position as men’s batting coach at New Zealand Cricket after a six-year tenure. This appointment marks Ronchi’s second senior franchise coaching role, following a successful stint with Islamabad United in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), where his team narrowly missed a spot in the final. Ronchi will conclude his commitments with New Zealand Cricket following the conclusion of their India tour in early December, after which he will shift his focus to the Renegades.

In his new role, Ronchi will collaborate with Renegades' high-performance manager Clint McKay to finalize the appointment of assistant coaches. McKay is also set to serve as the team’s bowling coach, leveraging his previous experience in that capacity with the Melbourne Stars and the Australian white-ball side. The club plans to recruit two additional assistant coaches and will continue to develop its roster once the contracting embargo concludes later this month.

Amidst these structural changes, the Renegades have reportedly already inquired about the potential availability of former England Test captain Ben Stokes for the upcoming campaign. Stokes has previously represented the Renegades in the BBL, making him a targeted prospect as the club seeks to strengthen its list for the new season.
