England Post 258 against India in Thrilling First ODI

England concluded their first innings at 258 all out in 47.5 overs during the opening ODI against India. After a shaky start that saw the top order collapse, the English side managed to put a respectable total on the board, setting up an intriguing chase for the Indian batting lineup.

The innings began with significant pressure from the Indian bowlers, who dismantled England's top order efficiently. Key contributions in the middle and lower order, however, provided much-needed stability.

Joe Root was the standout performer for England, remaining unbeaten with a composed 76 runs off 76 deliveries. Liam Dawson also played a pivotal role, anchoring the innings with a solid 68 runs off 83 balls.

India’s bowling attack remained disciplined throughout the innings, with Axar Patel leading the charge by claiming 4 wickets for 62 runs. Prasidh Krishna and Gurnoor Brar supported him effectively, taking 2 wickets each, while Jasprit Bumrah and Shivam Dube chipped in with a wicket apiece to keep the pressure mounting on the English batsmen.

Despite the early wickets, England’s recovery showcased resilience, ensuring they reached a total that remains competitive on the Edgbaston pitch. The Indian team now faces the challenge of chasing down 259 to take an early lead in this three-match ODI series.
As the match heads into the second innings, all eyes will be on how India’s batting order handles the English bowling attack under the lights. Given the competitive total posted, the game is finely poised for an exciting finish.
